MICK HELLMAN

Founder & Managing Partner

Mick Hellman is a Founder, Managing Partner, and member of the Investment and Management Committees. Prior to establishing HMI in late 2008, Mick spent most of his career at Hellman & Friedman, LLC where he was a Managing Director and a member of the Investment Committee. Mick started his career at Hellman & Friedman in the financial services vertical, working on investments in the money management sector. Mick founded Hellman & Friedman’s software and logistics practices and established the firm’s Hong Kong office. He was instrumental in Hellman & Friedman’s investments in Blackbaud, Hongkong International Terminals and Mitchell International. Notably, Mick served as Chairman of Blackbaud, Inc. (NYSE: BLKB), from 1999 to 2009. Prior to joining Hellman & Friedman in 1987, Mick worked as a Financial Analyst at Salomon Brothers in San Francisco in the Corporate Finance Department.

Currently, Mick serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Hall Capital Partners LLC and Chairperson of Specialized Bicycle Components’ Advisory Board. In addition, Mick is currently a trustee of the USA Cycling Foundation and the Hellman Foundation. He also serves as an advisor to the Rosenberg Finance Committee. Prior board involvement include: the Rosenberg Foundation; SFJazz Organization; Oh!media (ASX: OML); Osterweis Capital Management; LPL Financial Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: LPLA); Asia Alternatives Management LLC.; UC Berkeley Foundation; Blackbaud; Hongkong International Terminals; Mitchell International; Foxcroft School (Board Chair and Chair of the Investment Committee); and the Bay Area Discovery Museum.

Mick received a B.A. in Economics with High Distinction from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard Business School. Mick and his wife have five grown children and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mick also performs drums and vocals with his children, sisters, nieces, and nephews in several Americana bands, playing in Bay Area bars and nightclubs.
